Niners fall behind early, lose 27-24 to Bulldogs

Falling behind 14-3 early against Gardner-Webb, the UNC Charlotte football team was faced with an uphill task.

The 49ers dropped their third-straight game by a touchdown or less to the Bulldogs on Saturday in Boiling Springs, 27-24.

Matt Johnson led the Niners, completing 12-of-27 passes for 255 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Bears stay perfect on the year, beat Tornados, 48-17

The No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne football team matched its best start since 1962 with a 48-17 win over Brevard on Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference action.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior quarterback Miles Freeman rushed for three scores and passed for another as the Bears built a 41-0 halftime lead en route to the easy win at Brevard Memorial Stadium.

Roberts, Red Devils run past rival Maiden, 43-35

Struggling with the passing game early on in its football game against Maiden, the versatile Newton-Conover offense turned to its running attack.

The Red Devils grounded and pounded their way to 349 rushing yards, running by the rival Blue Devils, 43-35, at Gurley Stadium on Saturday.

Down just 21-13 at halftime, Fred T. Foard was on the cusp of a huge win Friday in Boone against Watauga.

However, the Tigers collapsed in the second half, falling 42-13 to the Pioneers.

BREAKING: Rain causing football schedule changes

A day after the status of the Newton-Conover/Maiden football game was left in limbo, both schools have agreed to move tonight's contest to Saturday at 7 p.m.

The tailgate before the rivalry game is also moved from Friday to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The O-N-E has been in contact with the remaining athletic directors in Catawba County, and no other schedule changes have been made at this time.

Newton-Conover, Maiden rivalry features bloodlines

That theory will be tested tonight when Newton-Conover hosts rival Maiden in the two team’s annual rivalry game at Gurley Stadium.

Tonight’s battle between the Red Devils and Blue Devils will be about bragging rights for not only both football teams, but for families, as well.

BREAKING: Weather shakes up football schedule

Impending rainy weather on Friday has moved the annual rivalry game between Newton-Conover and Maiden at Gurley Stadium.

A decision has not been officially made on the game time, but Newton-Conover Athletic Director Angelo Palozzi said at approximately 12:30 p.m. that the game would take place either Saturday or Monday between the Red Devils and Blue Devils.
