HIckory Post 48 suffers its first loss of the season

After seven-straight wins, Post 48’s first loss was due to happen at any time.

Lincoln County drove in eight runs on 12 hits to come away with the 8-7 win against Hickory on Friday at Henkel-Alley Field at the American Legion Fairgrounds.

With the loss, Post 48 falls to 7-1 on the season.

11 runs, 16 hits doom 'Dads in loss to Drive

The Greenville Drive pounded out 11 runs on 16 hits on Friday to take the series opener against the Hickory Crawdads, picking up an 11-6 victory at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Drive (31-29) scored in all but three innings of the game, including two runs in the first and sixth.

Greenville's biggest inning came in the seventh when it plated four runs.

Crawdads take finale against RiverDogs, 7-3

Behind 14 hits, the Hickory Crawdads topped the Charleston RiverDogs in their series finale Thursday in South Carolina.

Hickory (32-27) scored two runs in the first inning and three runs in the fourth inning to pull out to the 5-0 lead and remain ahead the entire ball game.

Five Crawdads drove in one run each, including catcher Kellin Deglan, who hit a solo home run.

Despite coming from different schools and backgrounds, the three players have developed a special bond that is translating into results on the field.

Post 48 still perfect with sweep of Asheville

Hickory Post 48 continued its early season surge with a sweep of Asheville Post 70 on Wednesday.

Post 48 improves to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in Area IV West Division.

In the first game, seven runs on 11 hits lifted Post 48 to a 7-0 shutout.

Pitcher Jordan Fulbright tossed a complete game shutout, striking out four Post 70 batters and allowing one walk.

Gumbs, RiverDogs rally to beat Crawdads, 9-5

Behind a four-run seventh and one-run eighth, the Charleston RiverDogs topped the Hickory Crawdads for the second-straight day on Wednesday, 9-5.

Trailing 5-4 after six innings, Charleston (36-22) rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, including a three-run homer by Angelo Gumbs that scored Gary Sanchez and Dante Bichette Jr.

Whaley, Chapman lift Hickory to 5th straight

Hickory Post 48 brought its best to the plate against an undefeated Caldwell County squad on Tuesday.

Robert Whaley allowed five hits, no runs and struck out 11 batters on the mound, and Colton Chapman nearly hit for the cycle, allowing Post 48 to remain undefeated with a 9-0 victory against Post 29 at Henkel-Alley Field.
