Whaley, Chapman lift Hickory to 5th straight

Hickory Post 48 brought its best to the plate against an undefeated Caldwell County squad on Tuesday.

Robert Whaley allowed five hits, no runs and struck out 11 batters on the mound, and Colton Chapman nearly hit for the cycle, allowing Post 48 to remain undefeated with a 9-0 victory against Post 29 at Henkel-Alley Field.

Charleston ends Hickory's win streak at 8

The Hickory Crawdads' win streak came to an end on Tuesday.

The Charleston RiverDogs pounded out 10 runs on 10 hits, including home runs by Reymond Nunez and Mason Williams, on their way to a 10-3 victory over the Hickory Crawdads in South Carolina.

Dante Bichette, Jr. led Charleston (35-22) with a 3-for-5 hitting performancing, including two RBIs.

Scott Stilwell was approved by the Catawba County Schools Board of Education to be a social studies teacher at Bandys High School.

Stilwell also jointly accepted an offer from BHS Principal Todd Black to be the next Trojans boys basketball coach.

14 runs, 13 hits lift Hickory to eighth-straight win

The Hickory Crawdads fell below the .500 mark on May 27. Since then, they've been flawless.

The 'Dads (31-25) continued their winning streak, notching their eighth-straight victory with a 14-5 tally against Kannapolis at home on Monday.

Appalachian State falls 5-2, eliminated by Oklahoma

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Drew Harrison's first career start as a pitcher came in the biggest game of Oklahoma's season.

The former first baseman made it look easy, allowing just two runs in six innings and getting three RBIs from Jack Mayfield on Monday night as Oklahoma beat Appalachian State 5-2 to win the Charlottesville Regional.

After falling behind 4-0 in the first couple of innings, Fred T. Foard rallied in its second game against C.B. Aycock in the best-of-three state 3A championship series Saturday.

The Lady Tigers (26-5) scored three runs in the top of the third, but could not get any closer, dropping the contest, 4-3, to the Falcons.
