Bobcats lose 15th straight, fall to Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets' inside game was at its best on Saturday night.

Kosta Koufos scored a season-high 16 points, and Kenneth Faried and Andre Iguodala added 15 points apiece as the Nuggets beat Charlotte 110-88 and sent the Bobcats to their 15th consecutive loss.

No. 4 Duke women beat USC 75-60 to stay undefeated

The postseason is still three months away, yet No. 4 Duke got a taste of the physical style of play and quick turnarounds that it can expect come tournament time in March.

Chelsea Gray led five players in double figures with 18 points and the Blue Devils remained undefeated with a 75-60 victory over Southern California in the Women of Troy Classic on Saturday.

PREP NOTEBOOK: Freedom hands Foard 1st loss

The Freedom boys basketball team knocked off previously unbeaten Fred T. Foard on Friday with a 65-57 win in Morganton.

Defense helped the Patriots (8-2), who scored 18 points off of Tiger turnovers in Friday's game.

Jeron Hemphill scored a game-high 23 points to lead Freedom in the victory.

Lee's triple-double paces Warriors past Bobcats

David Lee had 23 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high 11 assists, Stephen Curry set a career high with eight 3-pointers and the Golden State Warriors extended the Charlotte Bobcats' losing streak to 14 games with a 115-100 victory on Friday night.

Klay Thompson added 20 points while Carl Landry and Draymond Green had 11 apiece for the Warriors, who have won eight of 10.

Three Catawba County athletic directors leaving

All seven Catawba County high schools have changed athletic directors after the calendar year.

Three county athletic directors, including Chad Smith (Fred T. Foard), Dennis Whitener (St. Stephens) and Randy Lowman (Bandys), are leaving their respective schools effective Dec. 31.

PREP NOTEBOOK: Indians move to 9-0 on season

Behind 18 points from Kerigan Farley and 13 points from Zach Houston, the St. Stephens boys basketball team continue its impressive start to the season with a 52-38 victory against Bandys on Thursday in Catawba.

With the non-conference, the Indians improve to 9-0 on the season. Bandys falls to 2-5 on the year.

Indians, Trojans compete in final meet of 2012

The St. Stephens and Bandys swim teams competed in their final meet of the 2012 calendar year on Wednesday.

The Indians and Trojans both competed at Lenoir-Rhyne University against Alexander Central, North Lincoln and Watauga high schools.

Suns hand Bobcats their 13th straight loss

Shannon Brown scored a season-high 26 points and the Phoenix Suns routed the Bobcats 121-104 on Wednesday night, Charlotte's league-worst 13th straight loss.

Goran Dragic added 21 points and Jared Dudley had 20 for the Suns, who have won a season-best four straight.

Phoenix connected on a season-high 17 3-pointers on 28 attempts.

Hickory native named Nationwide Series director

St. Stephens grad and Hickory native Wayne Auton was promoted Wednesday to the director of the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Auton had previously served as the director of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series since 1995.
