Lynch’s 257 yards, 5 TDs lift Bears past Tigers

Already with 532 rushing yards on the season, Justin Lynch isn’t satisfied with what he has accomplished on the football field yet.

The senior running back tallied 257 rushing yards and all five of his team’s touchdowns against Fred T. Foard on Friday in Newton.

Lynch’s performance helped the Bears improve to 4-0 with a 35-7 road win against the Tigers.

Cline, Red Devils beat Cardinals, improve to 2-0

Newton-Conover put on an array of offensive fireworks on Friday night versus East Surry in a 49-6 non-conference win that earned the Red Devils their second-straight victory of the season.

Red Devils quarterback Kevin Cline accounted for 236 total yards (130 passing, 106 rushing) in the game.

Trojans beat Knights, Lowman earns his 200th win

When the final buzzer sounded Friday in Denver, history was made on the football field.

Bandys picked up a 42-18 win against North Lincoln to improve to 3-1 on the season.

More importantly, the 24-point margin of victory gave Trojans head coach Randy Lowman his 200th career coaching win.

FOOTBALL ROUND-UP: Blue Devils top Indians

The Maiden football team pulled out to a 21-0 halftime lead and never looked back on its way to a 28-7 victory against St. Stephens in Hickory on Friday.

Wide receiver Jose Campos made the first two scores of the game for the Blue Devils (2-2), including a 77-yard run on offense and an 88-yard interception return for another score on defense.

Indians' Cramer perseveres despite life’s obstacles

As an offensive and defensive lineman for the St. Stephens football team, senior Corey Cramer knows what its like to battle on the football field every Friday night.

Conflicts off of the field, though, have made Cramer more mentally tougher than anyone could ever expect out of a 17-year-old.

Bryant, Indians win their fifth soccer game

Paced by two goals from Nich Bryant, the St. Stephens soccer team picked up its fifth win of the season Thursday against North Buncombe, 4-1, in Hickory.

Bryant's goals came in the 23rd and 74th minutes. He also assisted on a fifth-minute goal by Rafael Sauceda.

PREP NOTEBOOK: Trojans stay perfect in CVAC

The Bandys volleyball team remains undefeated in Catawba Valley 2A play with a three-set victory over Bunker Hill on Thursday 25-15, 25-8 and 25-23.

Kate Barrow made 16 aces for the Lady Trojans (5-4, 4-0), while Sierra Brotherton tallied seven kills, six blocks and two aces.

Megan Fair led Bunker Hill (2-9, 1-3) with 13 digs and nine kills. Krissy Helms also added 19 assists.

Greater Hickory Classic prepares for 10th anniversary

Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover hosted Media Day on Wednesday for the Greater Hickory Classic golf tournament — one month and three days until the event kicks of its 10th anniversary.

Founded in 2003 by Don Beaver and Jim Correll, the tournament continues to be a yearly tradition in Catawba County.
