Bandys' Gilliam healthy, awaiting baseball season

Nearly three months to the day his pick-up truck rolled three times in a ditch near Balls Creek Road, Jackson Gilliam is looking forward to spring baseball season.

Gilliam, a 5-foot-11-.inch junior at Bandys, suffered damage to his vertebrae, right hip, shoulder blade and face, and suffered from a concussion, internal bleeding and a collapsed lung from the accident.

The outlook on his health was fair, at best.

“He wasn’t supposed to be released from anything for three months of the date of the accident,” said Jackson’s mother, Janet.

Irving's 25 points lead Cavs past Bobcats, 102-94

CHARLOTTE — Rookie Kyrie Irving is making the transition from college to the NBA look pretty easy even though he insists it's not.

The No. 1 pick in the draft continues to produce big numbers, scoring 25 points and adding seven assists Monday to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 102-94 win over the Charlotte Bobcats. The Cavaliers finished their longest road trip of the season with a 3-4 record.

Walker scores 23 as Bobcats beat Warriors 112-100

CHARLOTTE — With Charlotte mired in a six-game losing streak, coach Paul Silas was desperate for a spark.

He found one in rookie Kemba Walker.

Walker scored a career-high 23 points in his first NBA start to lift the Bobcats to a 112-100 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night.

Silas benched veteran Boris Diaw, saying he wanted to see a different look with a smaller lineup. Diaw, who had started a franchise-record 235 straight games, had scored just three points in the last two games and had drawn criticism recently from Silas for his inconsistent play.

Drew Starkey led the Indians (11-6, 3-2) with 18 points, while Jordan James added 12 points.

Behind 17 points from Jordan McGinnis and 13 points from J'lean Wilson, the Bears earned improved to 3-13 overall and 3-4 in the Catawba Valley 2A with a victory against the Blue Devils.
