The Panthers scored their first points of the night with a one-yard touchdown plunge by quarterback Cam Newton to narrow New York lead to 23-7 with 6:25 remaining in the third quarter. The score capped a 13-play, 80 yard drive.

The Crawdads are a game and a half out of the Northern Division lead behind Hagerstown. The 'Dads are also tied with West Virginia for second place in the division's second-half race.

The Hickory Crawdads host the visiting Kannapolis Intimidators at L.P. Frans Stadium at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Crawdads are 21-18 in the second half and 57-51 overall, while the Intimidators are 14-23 in the second half and 47-60 overall.

The series between the two teams is tied, 1-1. Hickory won 4-3 on Monday, while Kannapolis took game two on Tuesday, 6-1.

The Hickory Crawdads host the visiting Delmarva Shorebirds at L.P. Frans Stadium tonight. The game started 30 minutes late at 7:30 due to earlier rain in the area.

The Crawdads are 18-13 in the second half and 54-46 overall, while the Shorebirds are 12-18 in the second half and 40-59 overall.

Hickory leads the four-game series, 1-0. They won Monday's opening game of the series, 8-1.

The Hickory Crawdads kick off their second half of the South Atlantic League regular season tonight against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Crawdads finished the first half of the regular season with a 36-33 overall record, while the Grasshoppers were 46-24 in the first half.

The Observer News Enterprise is live at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh for the 3A state softball championship series between Fred T. Foard (26-5) and C.B. Aycock (30-3).

The series between the two schools is tied 1-1. Foard won game one yesterday, 1-0, in nine innings behind an RBI single by senior Rebecca Rowe that scored Lexi Shubert's courtesy runner, Jessie Miller.
