Daniel â€śDannyâ€ť Allen Ratchford, age 45, of Catawba passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at his residence. Burke Mortuary in Maiden is serving the Ratchford family.
Wayne Elbert Bumgarner, 75, of Newton passed away at his residence on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013. The Bumgarner family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremations in Conover.
The Newton Fire Department is currently operating out of the same headquarters it has been in for more than 50 years.
However, next year they hope to have a new home to move into.

Traffic was halted for hours Monday morning after a black car traveling northbound on U.S. 321 ran off the road, went underneath a cable in the median and struck an large delivery truck.
The accident took place just north of mile marker 37 at approximately 8 a.m.
A suspected gunman in a Rowan County shooting was arrested in Conover on Monday night.
Khari McClelland, 23, was arrested at a home on 167 8th Avenue SW in Conover on Monday afternoon.
McClelland is one of four men wanted in the shooting of 25-year-old Rowan County volunteer firefighter Marcus Kauffman.
