Hayes Edward Drum, age 96, of Catawba, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. The Drum family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Conover.

Evelyn Ledford Barlowe, age 79, of Conover passed away on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Brian Center- East in Hickory. Burke Mortuary in Newton is serving the Barlowe family.
On Nov. 8, against the backdrop of a decorated military transport truck and equipment trailer, the Small Town Main Street-Veterans Garden of Honor (STMS-VGH) Committee hosted its official Groundbreaking Ceremony for a garden tribute to be built in the Town of Catawba to honor military Veterans and their families.
James Luttonâ€™s face lit up with excitement when he saw the shiny, red mechanical hand that had been made just for him. Once he was all strapped in, six-year-old James was able to do something he had never been able to do - pick things up with his left hand.
