Man drowns at Murray’s Mill

June 10, 2014

Richard Cain, of Charlotte and Richard Black, of Statesville, were fishing at Murray's Mill on Sunday when their boat capsized in the water.

Black made it shore, but Cain never surfaced.

"He looked back and all he could see was the hand and top of the head," said Officer Carson Rogers with the NC Wildlife Commission. Rogers is heading up the investigation and has been speaking...

Maiden Robbery Suspect Arrested

On Monday June 2 2014 at 11:27 AM, the TAS Drug located at 201 Island Ford Road in Maiden was robbed by a then unknown male subject.

He presented a threatening note to pharmacy staff declaring he had a gun and demanding pharmacy staff give him certain specific controlled substance medication.

65 years of tradition will be coming to an end this month for members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Newton.

"I'm not sad at all," said Jimmy Martin, president of the congregation.
"It's nice to see that the building will continue on as a church."

Holy Cross has been bought by Calvary Chapel from Huntersville.

Second graders from Maiden Elementary took some time out of their classrooms to enjoy the sunshine at the Maiden Recreation Center on Friday afternoon.

The park was lined with Maiden police cars, fire trucks, and rescue vehicles.

The Bunker Hill High School baseball team hung their heads out the window of their bus to listen to the cheers that rang through downtown Claremont. Red and black paw prints decorated posters, shirts, and even faces as fans and community members gathered together on Friday afternoon to say farwell to the Bears as they hit the road to their state championship game.

A wreck on Tuesday afternoon sent John Eddie Greer, 60, to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
