Lions Cage Bears

November 13, 2010

The first round of the state 2-AA West playoffs did not go as planned for Bunker Hill. The Bears rolled into Shelby on Friday night a lot of momentum, but they sputtered offensively losing 38-6.

Bunker Hill was limited to 200 yards of total offense and was pinned on its half of field most of the night.

“They came in and played very hard, very physical,” said Shelby head coach Chris Norman. “They gave us a challenge. That three-headed monster gave us a scare all week, but our defensive unit played well, and we won the line-of-scrimmage battle against them.”

Hoping for a brighter future

November 13, 2010

The holiday punch bowl was always a source of struggle for Owen "Buddy" Shoup.
Shoup struggled with alcoholism and addiction, and his family's punch bowl tempted him to start drinking again. To help encourage Shoup's sobriety, his mother made a nonalcoholic beverage for Shoup and placed the beverage in a smaller bowl beside the family punch bowl.
Shoup battled his alcoholism step by step and day by day.
"That little dish eventually became the whole punch bowl," he said.
