How liquor is sold in North Carolina could change in light of recent discussions about privatization of the state's Alcoholic Beverage and Control system.
Privatization, however, won't happen if area governance boards have their way.
The Catawba County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution to support the continuance of the current ABC system, and it opposed efforts to privatize the system.

The final home game of the Carolina Panthers’ 2010 season started with two rookies starting at quarterback. Carolina’s Jimmy Clausen was still looking for his first win as a starter, and Arizona’s John Skelton was making the second start of his career.
Clausen walked off the field with the victory – his first as a starter in a Carolina Panthers’ uniform. The Panthers defeated the Cardinals 19-12 and earned their second regular-season win at home in the 2010 calendar year.
“You’re supposed to win games,” Clausen said. “This was big for us going into the next two games and next year.”

Her project started off with the idea to give to patients at Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem, but plans changed. Catawba County Department of Social Services became the recipients of Stewart's gifts.

A homeowner took matters into his own hands Friday when a thief attempted to rob his home.
A suspect entered a home on East Maiden Road on Friday about 1 p.m. in an apparent attempted larceny, said Catawba County Sheriff's Office Lt. Joel Fish.
The suspect, upon entering the house, saw the homeowner was still in the residence and didn't continue the larceny attempt.

If you see what appears to be a mound of winter clothes running around Catawba County in the next few days, it’s me. I hate cold weather, and this week’s bitterly cold temperatures have left me seeing just how many layers I can add to my body and still maintain the use of my arms.
I don’t remember when I started hating cold weather. I do know, however, that I reach for a sweater just from the mention of temperatures below 70 degrees.
