BREAKING: Panthers' Hardy goes on exempt list

Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy has agreed to go on the Exempt/Commissioner’s Permission List, according to sources and multiple media reports.

Hardy will still be paid his salary of approximately $770,000 per game while on the list, but will not be allowed to participate in all team activities, including practices and games. However, he will be allowed in the team’s facility.

Jeffery “Jeff” Manson Sigmon, age 43, of Newton, NC, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. The Sigmon family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton, NC.

Candidates Forum

The Catawba County Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police hosted the fourth installment of its election year "Candidates Forum" on Monday September 15th.

This iteration allowed judicial candidates and candidate-elects an opportunity to address the organization and answer questions from the audience specifically geared towards concerns of the law enforcement community in the county.

Frye, Tapia push Red Devils past Wolves, 2-1

The Newton-Conover boys soccer team survived a downpour in the first half against Lincolnton on Tuesday.

The Red Devils poured on the offense during the second half in a 2-1 victory against the Wolves.

Newton-Conover moves to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in Southern District 7 games this season.

BREAKING: Johnson not guilty on sex charges

Former Hickory High School basketball coach Shawn Johnson is innocent.

On Tuesday morning, Johnson was ruled not guilty on nine sex charges stemming from accusations from four different girls.

He had previously been arrested in 2012 at his home and was charged with 11 different sex crimes. However, due to lack of evidence, two of those crimes were dismissed earlier in Johnson's trial.
