Nhia Chou Vang, 68 of Hickory died Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton. Burial will follow Monday, March 10, 2014 at Southside Cemetery in Newton.
Pleaze David Guynn, age 63, of Conover, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at Davie Medical Center in Mocksville. Memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Troop 322, 310 5th Street NE, Conover, NC 28613.
Within the city of Conover lies a sleeping giant thatâ€™s ready to be awakened.
Since October 2013, the Republic Recycling Service in Conover has been recently building what they call a Single Stream Machine.
The machine itself stands as tall as the recycling facility itâ€™s stored in.

Charles Richard Medlin Sr. â€śBig Mâ€ť, age 65, of Newton, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Brian Center East in Hickory. Burke Mortuary in Newton is serving the Medlin family.
Martha Pope Carpenter, 93, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. The Carpenter family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremations in Conover.

Bandys defeated East Davidson, 62-42, to earn the right to play Franklin (24-3) in Saturdayâ€™s noon 2A West title contest at UNC-Greensboroâ€™s Fleming Gym.
Conover Fire Department will soon start the hiring process for three new full-time positions made available by a SAFER grant awarded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Department of Homeland Security.
Conover City Council approved this grant and the addition of these positions at their Monday night meeting.
