A beast has been unleashed in Conover.

On Thursday, Republic Services dedicated its new single-stream recycling machine at its recycling facility in Conover. Russ Knocke, director of field communications and public affairs at Republic Service, talked about how important the dedication was for the company.

Curtis ready to lead Bears in first state title series

The culmination of a 42-year coaching journey for Marty Curtis takes place tonight as he leads Bunker Hill in game one of the 2A baseball championship series against Midway.

It’s the first time that Curtis, who has coached 31 years at Bunker Hill, has led a team this far.

The Catawba County Schools (CCS) Board of Education approved the appointment of five new principals and two district-level support personnel at its June 2 meeting. These changes will be effective July 1, 2014.

A car rolled into a house on West 6th Street Circle Tuesday afternoon, damaging both exterior and interior. Neighbor Joyce Shook said she had seen a similar incident before....

Three up, three down

Newton City Council opened their new council chambers with several sets of figurative fireworks before Tuesday's meeting.

The fireworks began with the official opening the new Council Chambers, which was closed for renovations. The new Chambers features new seating, new carpet and drywall and technology upgrades.

Wreck injures driver

A man was taken to the hospital after his white Chevrolet truck made its way up the bank at the southeast corner of the East 20th Street and Hwy. 16 intersection in Newton.

Maxine Janette Cline Reinhardt, age 86, of Newton, passed away Monday, June 02, 2014, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. The Reinhardt family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Cremations in Newton.

Mildred Clark Teachout 85 of Conover died Monday, June 2, 2014 at Hospice of Sherrills Ford. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
