Below are a list of Thursday's prep sports schedule changes due to inclement weather in the area:

Baseball
Bandys at West Caldwell, ppd. to Monday
Hibriten at St. Stephens, ppd. to Monday
West Lincoln at Bunker Hill, ppd. to Saturday (JV at 2, varsity at 5)

Softball
Bandys at West Caldwell, ppd. to Monday

Elderly man arrested in Maiden for drugs

April 16, 2015

On Tuesday, April 14, Maiden Police Narcotics officers, working in conjunction with officers from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Hickory Police Department and Long View Police Department executed a narcotics related search warrant at 420 North Main Ave Maiden.

‘Be Careful’

April 16, 2015

On October 3, 2014 five teenagers took a curve too fast in a Mercedes, costing the lives of two Bunker Hill High School students. Justin Turner and Alec Sigmon, both 15 at the time, were mourned by family, friends, classmates and the community following the accident.

Newton Wins Financial Award

For the 30th consecutive year, the city of Newton has been awarded the prestigious Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

Newton man alleged possesses cocaine

Thalmus Jaton Linder, 36, of Stadium Drive in Newton was arrested by Hickory Police Department on Tuesday.

Annual clean-up events in Newton and Conover

In 2013, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) spent more than $16 million to remove approximately seven million pounds of roadside litter.

The estimated cost of litter pickup is 30 cents per piece of litter.
One mile of highway contains approximately 16,000 pieces of litter.

Claremont man faces meth charges

Nathaniel Mica Falls, 40, of Claremont, was arrested by Claremont Police Department on Tuesday.

Tractor-trailer accident halts traffic on Highway 16

April 15, 2015

Traffic was blocked along Highway 16 after a tractor trailer ran off the roadway Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 4 p.m., a tractor trailer that appeared to be turning onto Highway 16 an d heading north ran off the roadway and down an embankment. No one was injured in the accident.

5 names in 2015 Catawba County Sports HOF class

April 14, 2015

The Catawba County Sports Hall of Fame will add five members on May 11 to its list of 61 names already enshrined.

The Hall of Fame’s 2015 class was announced on Tuesday at the Highland Recreation Center, and it features a longtime head coach, two former prep standouts, a journeyman race car driver and a bass fisherman.
