Bandys had made a habit of overcoming double-digit deficits during its run in the 2A girls basketball playoffs.
Saturday’s deficit, though, was one it just couldn’t overcome.
The Trojans fell behind by 12 points early and couldn’t click on offense against Wilkes Central, falling 49-40 to the Eagles in the 2A West finals at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex.
Through 26 wins, a conference championship and a 2A West Region appearance, there has been a constant for the Bandys girls basketball team this season — point guard Allie Smith.

That experience paid off on Thursday for Goble and the Bandys girls basketball team.
During a scrimmage this summer, the unthinkable happened to Bandys senior basketball player Haleigh Lackey.
The ACL in her left knee was torn — as were both her medial and lateral menisci.
“I was feeling like my life just basically ended,” Lackey said. “Basketball is my life. That’s all I ever do is eat, sleep and breathe basketball.”
Playing basketball together since they were 4 years old, the bond between twin sisters Kendyl and Kasey Medlin runs extremely deep.
“We think the same things, and I know where she is sometimes,” Kasey said. “It’s just instinct.”
