Bobcats hold on to beat Hornets 73-71

March 13, 2012

NEW ORLEANS — When the Hornets' Trevor Ariza faked a pass and bolted past Gerald Henderson in the final seconds, Henderson suspected Ariza's lane to the hoop for a potential game-tying score wasn't quite as open as it looked.

Ariza still had to contend with Bobcats rookie Bismack Biyombo, who knew better than to stray too far from the hoop with the game in the balance.

Biyombo went up with both arms extended and blocked Ariza's driving dunk attempt, allowing the Charlotte Bobcats to celebrate a 73-71 victory in the Big Easy on Monday night.

Double plays lift Lady Indians to win

March 8, 2012

After dropping its past three softball games, St. Stephens received great play on the mound and timely double plays Thursday to knock off unbeaten Maiden, 3-1.

Up 3-0 in the sixth inning, the Lady Indians (2-3) dodged several potential tying chances by the Lady Blue Devils (5-1).

Maiden scored one run with one out in the sixth inning to cut its deficit to two, but a solid defensive play by the Lady Indians stopped the possibility of more Lady Blue Devil runs.
