Hanvey's hit lifts Hickory past Moundsville again

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, Davis Hanvey singled to give Post 48 its second non-divisional win in four days over visiting Moundsville (W.Va.) at Henkel-Alley Field, 8-7.

Hickory rallied in the bottom of the seventh down 7-5 to win the game and improve to 13-2 overall on the season.

Cole McGraw picked up the win in relief.

McMurray and Montoya like direction of team

SONOMA, Calif. — It's been a continuous search for consistency at Chip Ganassi Racing, where the NASCAR program has never matched the performance levels of its dominant IndyCar entries.

But there's no bitterness from Juan Pablo Montoya or Jamie McMurray, who have watched from afar as IndyCar counterparts Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon race for wins and championships every year.

Hickory cancels two games with Caldwell County

Hickory Post 48 has cancelled two its final seven games on the schedule with Caldwell County Post 29.

Hickory, 12-2 overall, 9-1 in the Area IV Western Division, was scheduled to take on Caldwell County twice — June 23 at Henkel-Alley Field in Hickory and June 27 at M.S. Deal Stadium in Caldwell County.

Sandusky's son Matt says his father abused him

BELLEFONTE, Pa. — Lawyers for one of Jerry Sandusky's adopted sons said the man has told authorities the former Penn State assistant football coach abused him.

The lawyers issued a statement Thursday naming Matt Sandusky, one of Jerry Sandusky's six adopted children, and saying that the 33-year-old had been prepared to testify on behalf of prosecutors at his father's sex abuse trial.

Post 48's Robert Whaley grows as a pitcher, leader

Robert Whaley had big shoes to fill in the Post 48 pitching rotation entering this summer, but he is exceeding expectations.

After Hickory lost starters Jeremy Null and Tyler Poole — both Div. I pitchers and MLB draftees — Whaley said he knew he would have to step up.

Hickory ousts Henderson Co. on diamond, 9-1

Hickory Post 48 picked up another win in Area IV Western Division play, knocking off Henderson County at Henkel-Alley Field on Wednesday, 9-1.

With the victory, Hickory improves to 12-2 overall and 9-1 in the Area IV Western Division.

Henderson County falls to 6-12 overall and 1-8 in Western Division play.

BCS commissioners settle on plan for playoff

CHICAGO, Ill. — The BCS commissioners are backing a playoff plan with the sites for the national semifinals rotating among the major bowl games and a selection committee picking the teams.

The plan will be presented to university presidents next week for approval.

For the second-straight day, the Hickory offensive onslaught continued.

Post 48 score seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning on its way to a 12-2 mercy-rule victory against visiting Moundsville (W.Va.) on Tuesday at Henkel-Alley Field.

4 'Dads help pace Northern All-Stars in 3-2 win

Four of the five Hickory Crawdads All-Star representatives helped pace the Northern Division to the 3-2 victory against the Southern Division in the 2012 SAL All-Star Game, before 6,099 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in Charleston, S.C. on Tuesday night.

Hickory shortstop Hanser Alberto, who played the entire game, drove in one of the Northern side's runs.
