CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — No pressure, Carolina Panthers. All you're about to do is make a decision that could immediately turn around a troubled franchise or lead it further into the abyss.
Add in never-before-seen uncertainty involving the bizarre labor dispute and you don't have to remind the team's brass of the pressure in holding the No. 1 pick in Thursday's NFL draft.
"It does kind of put a face on the beginning of my career," new coach Ron Rivera said Tuesday.
April 26th
St. Stephens couldn’t have scripted a better ending.
Trailing 6-0 to Newton-Conover, the Indians’ baseball team rallied to score 12 runs, including a dramatic two-run homer by center fielder Phillip Carroll in the sixth inning. The Indians (6-13) bounced back from a 7-2 loss Monday to Hickory.
“We came out flat in the first side out,” said Indians’ coach Chip Watts. “Our kids responded well. We knew we had to chip at it a little bit at a time, and we wouldn’t get it all back in one inning. Our kids stayed with the course and with the game plan.”

The Bunker Hill baseball team won its 21st game of the season in the opening round of the 21st annual Catawba County Easter Baseball Classic by defeating Newton-Conover for the third time this season.
The Bears (21-0), who are the defending champions of the tournament and have won 50 of their last 51 games, will face Fred T. Foard today at 5 p.m.
April 22nd

No, this isn’t a children’s story, but it was a storybook ending for a trio of Bunker Hill baseball players.
First basemen/pitcher Jacob Shepherd, third basemen/pitcher Cody Plemmons and outfielder Cody Ervin officially signed to continue their baseball careers in college Friday.
Shepherd signed with Catawba College, Plemmons with Lenoir-Rhyne and Ervin with Mars Hill.
April 21st
After losing senior leader Katie Johnson to a knee injury in the second period, St. Stephens was determined not to let her down.
Freshman Alex Roarke and sophomore Macy Franklin each pocketed goals in the second period, as St. Stephens picked up its eighth conference victory against Watauga on Thursday.
“Katie gets hurt and all of a sudden, we picked up our play,” said Indians coach Chuck Davis. “You have to hand it to the girls for having their teammates back. They wanted to do it for Katie. It was nice for them to step up in her absence.”
April 20th
The Bunker Hill girls’ soccer team got off on the wrong foot Wednesday — literally.
The Lady Bears (2-13-2) struggled against a strong West Iredell team. They had no shots on goal and allowed six goals to drop a non-conference game at home.
The Lady Warriors (12-6-0) scored four goals in the first period and added two early goals in the second period to come away with a 6-0 victory.
Bandys’ unbeaten conference softball record — gone.
Maiden’s chances of winning the conference title — still alive.
The Blue Devils (10-2) avenged a 6-4 home loss to the Trojans on March 24 and overcame an early 1-0 deficit to win 3-1 on the road Tuesday.
The loss for Bandys (9-1) is the first in conference play and keeps Maiden’s hopes alive for the chance of a CVAC title.
Maiden pitcher Hannah Callahan had trouble early in the first inning of Tuesday’s game, as she loaded the bases on two hits and a hit batter.
April 18th
Three singles and six doubles players from county teams are guaranteed a spot at Regionals after Monday’s opening round of the CVAC tournament.
Among the county teams to have players advancing to Regionals were Maiden and Newton-Conover.
The Red Devils, who are beginning their quest for a second straight state championship in 2A, had John Reid qualify individually for the second year in a row.
Hang Lak Choi and Ryan Lampe, as well as Austin Adams and John Tate, qualified for regions in doubles.

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina's Harrison Barnes will return for his sophomore season instead of declaring for the NBA draft.
Barnes was the Atlantic Coast Conference rookie of the year, averaging nearly 16 points. The 6-foot-8 forward was widely regarded as the nation's top freshman entering the season and helped the Tar Heels win 29 games and the ACC regular-season championship and get within a game of the Final Four.
The Tar Heels will return all five starters and their top seven scorers from last season, making them a favorite to enter the year ranked No. 1.
April 16th
It was a “David versus Goliath” match-up when Bunker Hill faced Newton-Conover in baseball Friday.
The Bears entered the game a staggering 16-0 and 10-0 in CVAC games.
The Red Devils sported a 1-15 record. However, that didn’t stop Newton-Conover from playing their hearts out.
Red Devil pitcher Todd Church had his finest game of the season, striking out nine batters, but the Bears were just too much.
Bunker Hill scored six runs off of Church and pitcher Jacob Shepard struck out 11 batters, allowed one walk and three hits to give the Bears their 17th consecutive victory.
