For the second time in as many days, Post 48 won in dramatic fashion on the baseball diamond.
A walkoff hit by Hickory center fielder Phillip Carroll lifted his team to a ninth inning win over Caldwell County. Hickory (18-8) leads its series over Caldwell County (19-11), 2-0.
âPhillip is a great player,â Rembert said. âFrom day one, he wanted that center field spot and earned it. He competes so hard every night and gives us everything heâs got. Heâs a 48er.â
July 8th
For the third straight year, college and NFL players gathered at Bandys High School to work with area high school football players on Friday.
Newton-Conover, Maiden, Bandys, St. Stephens and four other schoolsâ athletes participated in drills and took advice during the third annual Justin Harper Oddie Cares Foundation football camp.
This yearâs camp had even more of special meaning to Harper after the passing last night of 9-year-old âRobbieâ Caskey, a close friend of Harperâs in the Bandys community.
Harper said the young man had a special place in his life.
July 7th
At 18 years old, Jurickson Profar is taking center stage Sunday.
The Hickory Crawdadsâ shortstop is participating in the Major League Baseball Futures Game in Arizona, which is part of the leagueâs annual All-Star festivities.
The game pits the United States team against the World team. Teams are comprised of top minor league prospects.
Players on both of the 25-man rosters are selected by MLB, the MLB Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America, USA Baseball and the 30 MLB teams.
July 6th
After trailing 5-0 in the second inning, a Hickory Crawdads' rally fell just short.
Delmarva (6-8) held on to a 5-4 lead heading into the eighth inning of Wednesday's South Atlantic League contest against Hickory (8-6), when rain began to pour.
Officials called the game after seven complete innings, allowing the Shorebirds to survive the rally and a sweep on the road against the Crawdads.
Hickory starting pitcher Matt Thompson (3-5, 4.42) struggled in his short outing on Wednesday. Thompson pitched 1.1 innings.
July 5th
Following a 14-0 win on Monday against the Eastâs No. 1 seed, Huntersville, Hickory continued its dominance over Post 321 in the second round of the American Legion Playoffs.
Post 48 (15-8) scored 10 runs in three innings on its way to a 14-3 home route over Huntersville in game two at the American Legion Fairgrounds.
âWe are just real focused right now on winning this series,â said coach Fore Rembert. âThey want to advance to the next round. That is the big thing.â
July 4th
The Hickory Crawdads celebrated Independence Day with an explosion of offense.
In front of a sellout crowd of 5,225 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium, the Crawdads had 11 hits and scored nine runs on their way to a 9-2 Fourth of July win over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Monday.
The Shorebirds (5-7, 40-42) struck first in the game in the top half off the second inning. With runners on second and third, Michael Planeta singled to score Joe Oliveira. Hickoryâs Jurickson Profar mishandled a throw to first base on the play.
July 1st
West Virginia finished strong in its first game against the Catawba Valley Stars on Friday and started off just as strong in game two.
The Wild (14-10) scored six runs in the final inning of the first game to earn a 6-3 comeback victory against the Stars (11-7).
West Virginia added to that win by scoring five runs in the top of the first inning of game two on its way to a 7-0 victory and a sweep of the Friday doubleheader.

June 30th
Needing a win to stay alive against Hickory, Gaston came through in the clutch.
Bravesâ starting pitcher Henry Rundio allowed three runs on the mound and drove in three runs from the plate to keep the Braves in the Region IV playoffs, 6-3.
Hickory leadoff hitter Cole McGraw gave Post 48 (12-8) an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
After falling behind in the count 0-1, McGraw took the second pitch he saw deep over left-center field to give Hickory a 1-0 lead.
Wrestling superstar and WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter visited Hickory on Saturday as part of the Hickory Crawdads game against West Virginia.
During his time at the game, O-N-E Sports Editor Cody Dalton spoke to Slaughter and interviewed him on a variety of topics.
Q: Were sports something you played growing up?
SS: I played a lot of baseball growing up. I did the pony league, little league and the Babe Ruth league, Legion ball in high school. I played football, too.
Q: How did you transition that into a professional wrestling career?
June 29th
Post 48 opened the first round of the Region IV playoffs Tuesday with a bang.
Hickory scored four runs in the first two innings and got strong pitching performances from Tyler Poole and Jeremy Null. The duo combined to strike out 12 Gaston batters and allowed one run, as Post 48 won the opening game of a best-of-five series against the Braves, 4-1.
