St. Stephens lost its opener in the Northwestern 3A/4A conference in four sets to Watauga on Thursday 25-17, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-20.
Breanna Hall and Jenna Boliek led Saint (6-1, 0-1) with seven kills each. Baily Cloninger tallied 13 assists, while Katelyn Houser added 11 assists and eight digs.
Defensively, Ashley Markland recorded 15 digs.

The Hickory Crawdads announced on Wednesday that their partnership with the Texas Rangers has been extended.
The 'Dads and Rangers came to an agreement that will extend their Player Development Contract through the end of the 2014 season.
The Crawdads have been affiliated with the Texas Rangers since the 2009 campaign.
Down 2-0 in its volleyball match against Newton-Conover on Tuesday, it looked as if Bandys would start its conference season with a loss.

The Bears (2-6, 2-1) won four singles matches, but swept all of their doubles competition to pick up the conference win.

CONCORD â€” Tony Stewart joked Tuesday that his two-handed toss of his helmet at Matt Kenseth was "not bad for a 41-year-old who doesn't work out."
Aside from that, Stewart said he's not expecting any drama between the two drivers despite promising to run over Kenseth every chance he gets this season.
Maiden High School has found the man for its boys basketball head coaching job.
Patrick Kahny, a 55-year-old coaching veteran, was officially approved by the Catawba County Board of Education on Monday night to be the Blue Devils next boys basketball coach.
Kahny replaces Doug Miller, who stepped down in March after four seasons as Maiden coach and a 19-75 coaching record.
