BREAKING: Bobcats fire Dunlap after one season

With their NBA season less than a week from being over, the Charlotte Bobcats announced on Tuesday that they have fired Mike Dunlap after one season as head coach.

The search for Dunlap's replacement will start immediately.

Poplin to lead Red Tornadoes boys hoops program

Andy Poplin received approval to serve as the new Hickory High School boys basketball coach during Hickory Public Schools Board of Education meeting on Monday night.

Poplin replaces Lavell Hall, who announced on March 28 that he would not be returning for a second season at the helm of the Red Tornadoes.

BREAKING: Former L-R coach tabbed to lead Indians

An assistant coach from a rival program is taking over the helms of the St. Stephens football program.

Wayne Hicks, who has served as an assistant football coach at Hickory High School since 2008, was approved to be the next Indians gridiron leader by Catawba County Schools Board of Education during a close session at its monthly meeting on Monday night.

It had been a long time since Matt Johnson and Zach Bumgarner had touched a football field for live game competition — that was until Saturday.

Both former Catawba County prep football standouts made their much-awaited college football debuts during the Charlotte 49ers first-ever spring football game this past weekend.

Maiden's Henderson vaulting for late coach Lomax

Maiden’s Isaiah Henderson credits Rick Lomax with starting his pole vaulting career.

Now, the Maiden senior is hoping to honor the late coach’s memory with his performance this season.

Maiden still searching for girls basketball coach

The search for the next girls basketball coach at Maiden High School continues.

The Blue Devils have been without a girls basketball coach since last month when a mutual decision was by then-coach Katie Chapman and schools officials for Chapman not to return.

2 Maiden, 4 Foard athletes sign with colleges

It was a busy day for Catawba County prep athletes on Thursday with six seniors signing to play in the collegiate ranks.

Among those that signed were two Maiden football players and four Fred T. Foard basketball players.

The Bunker Hill boys and Hickory girls teams repeated their performances from a season ago by each winning county titles.
