MAIDEN â€” Competition at the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A tennis tournament officially kicked off on Tuesday.
Berths in the 2A West Regional tennis tournament are up for grabs at the event.

Armanti Edwardsâ€™ career as a Carolina Panther is over.
Edwards was waived by the Panthers on Tuesday, ending a three-year tenure with the team that drafted him back in 2010.
Originally a quarterback at Appalachian State, Edwards was converted to a wide receiver by the Panthers after they drafted him with the 89th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

NEWTON â€” The Catawba County Hornets capped an undefeated regular season at home on Saturday with a 32-12 win against the Carolina Colts at Westside Jaycee Park.
Aaron Rainey led the Hornets (12-0) with 42 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.
CHARLOTTE â€” Down 21 points early in the second half against Gardner-Webb, the UNC-Charlotte football team was able to change its fate on Saturday.
The 49ers scored 29 unanswered points in a 53-51 come-from-behind win against the Bulldogs on Saturday.
