Born in Canada and having lived across the United States, the journey of Fred T. Foard goalkeeper Rohman Clarke has led him to Saturday’s 3A state final in boys soccer.
The Tiger junior is hoping to help lift the program to its first-ever state title when Foard (22-5-2) battles Cardinal Gibbons (23-2-1) at 11:05 a.m. Saturday at the Dail Soccer Complex on the campus of N.C. State University.
On a senior-laden Newton-Conover boys soccer team, it’s easy to spot the quintet of Francisco Tapia, Xavier Tapia, Jason Mejia, Orlando Gildo and Aldayr Ozuna.
The five freshmen for the Red Devils have helped to fill the gaps in what they hope will be a state championship season.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) released its game times for Saturday's 2A and 3A state championship games.

Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Hickory Sportsman’s Club on Thursday, ESPN’s Jay Bilas visited Rock Barn Golf & Spa.
Bilas, who played basketball at Duke University and is now an college hoops analyst, spoke during the club’s bi-annual meeting.
Before the meeting, O-N-E Sports Editor Cody Dalton was able to interview Bilas on a number of topics.
The game times for the 2A and 3A West Region boys soccer championship games have been released.
