Driving back from Tuesdayâ€™s 2A West Region final in girls volleyball between Bunker Hill and Hendersonville, I reflected on the seasonâ€™s final match and also the Lady Bearsâ€™ remarkable run.
Bunker Hill fell in the contest to the two-time defending state champion Lady Bearcats, 3-0, but the match â€” and the season for that matter â€” was much more than the final result.
Below is a look at Tuesday's playoff scores and Wednesday's playoff matches involving Catawba County boys soccer teams:
Newton-Conover 8, Madison 0
Bandys (9-10-1) at Trinity (15-4-2), 6 p.m. tonight
Hickory 4, Concord 2
Kings Mountain (10-10-1) at Fred T. Foard (17-3-2), 6:30 p.m. tonight
Below is a look at the preliminary boys soccer playoff brackets involving Catawba County teams, as well as other conference teams:
2A West brackets
No. 32 Madison (7-12-2) at No. 1 Newton-Conover (20-1), 6 p.m. Tuesday
No. 27 Bandys (9-10-1) at No. 6 Trinity (15-4-2), 6 p.m. Wednesday
Other area 2A teams
Bunker Hill High School has set its game time for Tuesday's 2A West Region volleyball final in Claremont.
The Lady Bears (21-6) welcome Hendersonville (25-2) for a 6 p.m. match on Tuesday with a chance for both teams to reach the state championship game.
The Bunker Hill volleyball team completed the Catawba County playoff gauntlet on Saturday, and in the process, advanced to its first 2A West Region final.
The Lady Bears rallied from down a set to defeat Newton-Conover, 3-1, and advance to the state semifinals.
Rushing for 449 yards, Lincolnton dominated in its football game Friday night at Gurley Stadium, spoiling Newton-Conoverâ€™s Homecoming with a 51-8 victory.
N.C. State commit Darian Roseboro led the Wolves (7-2, 4-1) with 124 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns â€” giving the 6-foot-4, 270-pound senior 19 rushing touchdowns on the season.
Down 14-0 in the first quarter to Hickory, the Fred T. Foard football didn't fret.
The Tigers proceeded to make the game's next five scores in a 31-14 victory against the Red Tornadoes.
