'Hyper' Drive: freshman’s header leads to N-C win

September 10, 2014

As the clock wound down to just under a minute in Wednesday’s SD-7 soccer match up between Newton-Conover and Bandys, the contest appeared to be heading for overtime.

Receiving a crossing pass from teammate Alex Tenjhay with just 43 seconds left, the Red Devils’ Aldayr Ozuna needed to capitalize.

'Gentleman's champion:' Allen set to defend title

Michael Allen was described as a “gentleman’s champion” at Tuesday’s Greater Hickory Kia Classic Media Day.

In a little more than a month, Allen will defend his GHKC championship during the tournament’s 12th annual event.

Red Devils rise one spot to No. 9 in latest AP poll

The Newton-Conover football team moved up one spot in this week’s Associated Press prep football poll.

The Red Devils, who were ranked 10th in the first poll of the season last week, received a total of 33 votes this week to jump to No. 9.

RICHMOND, Va. — NASCAR's new win-and-in format had the potential to give one driver a shot at a dramatic last-grasp berth into the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.
