Hickory-Shelby game postponed until Sunday

Friday night's Area IV West Division game between Hickory Post 48 and Shelby Post 82 was postponed.

The contest is rescheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Keeter Stadium/Veterans Field in Shelby.

Post 48 (10-11, 8-8 in Area IV West) has two remaining games left in the regular season, including at Henkel-Alley Field on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Burke Post 21.

NBA Draft aids Charlotte's frontcourt, shooting

The Charlotte Hornets used Thursday’s NBA Draft to solidying their backcourt and added one of best shooters in this year’s rookie class.

After he dropped surprisingly out of the top five, forward Noah Vonleh went No. 9 to the Hornets.

General manager Rich Cho was surprised when Vonleh fell in the team’s lap.

Red Devils gear up, host first 7-on-7 drills

Newton-Conover High School hosted its first prep football 7-on-7 on Tuesday.

Head coach Matt Beam and the Red Devils welcomed Davidson Day for nearly two hours of competitive football action at the N-CHS practice field.

North, South play into extras; Game ends in 4-4 tie

There was no champion in the 2014 South Atlantic League All-Star Game at L.P. Frans Stadium on Tuesday.

Playing into the 10th inning, the North and South All-Stars finished tied 4-4 in the contest.

Hunter Harvey takes the All-Star spotlight tonight

He watched his brother Kris pitch at L.P. Frans Stadium when he was a young boy.

He saw his father Bryan coach there, as well.

Now, more than a decade later, Hunter Harvey is the starting pitcher for tonight's South Atlantic League All-Star Game at the historic stadium in Hickory.

With all of its roster, Hickory battles Cherryville

With a complete roster of players, Hickory Post 48 went to battle on Tuesday night against rival Cherryville at Henkel-Alley Field at the American Legion Fairgrounds.

Fresh off their 2A title series appearance, Bunker Hill players Colton Chapman, Cameron Chapman and Jordan Eckard all started in the contest.

Bears end dream season as 2A state runners-up

With tears in their eyes, Marty Curtis addressed the Bunker Hill baseball team following its 4-2 loss to Midway in the third game of 2A state championship series on Saturday at UNC-Greensboro.

The culmination of a 42-year coaching journey for Marty Curtis takes place tonight as he leads Bunker Hill in game one of the 2A baseball championship series against Midway.

It’s the first time that Curtis, who has coached 31 years at Bunker Hill, has led a team this far.

Hunter Harvey named starter for SAL All-Star Game

Hunter Harvey is a baseball All-Star.

Nearly a year after being drafted with the 22nd pick in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft, the former Bandys High standout will start in the 2014 South Atlantic League All-Star Game at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory on June 17.

Bears start state title series Friday in Greensboro

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released the schedule for the best-of-three prep baseball state championship series involving Bunker Hill High School.

The 2A and 4A state title series were both assigned to UNC-Greensboro Stadium.

The Bears (26-5) face Midway (25-4) in game one starting Friday at 8 p.m. at UNC-Greensboro's Stadium.
