Red Devils dominate Blue Devils, improve to 36-5

The Newton-Conover wrestling team continued its solid performance in conference matches this season on Thursday against Maiden.

The Red Devils (36-5, 5-0) were dominant in a 59-6 road victory against the Blue Devils (8-18, 1-4).

St. Stephens' Molli Huffman signs with Surry C.C.

St. Stephens softball player Molli Huffman made her college decision official on Thursday.

The senior catcher signed to play next fall for Surry Community College.

Tigers turn away Watauga to tally hoops victories

Competing in its second pair of basketball games in two days, the Fred T. Foard basketball program faced a battle against another hungry conference foe in Watauga on Wednesday.

Holding off two late 3-pointers, the Tigers were victorious in both of their games on the court against the Pioneers.

Lady Indians, Pioneers claim NWC swim titles

St. Stephens' girls and Watauga's boys were big winners Wednesday at the Northwestern 3A/4A swimming championships.

The Lady Indians and Pioneers each won team titles at the conference meet, which was held at the Hickory Foundation YMCA.

Both the boy's and girl's standings came down to the last relay to determine the winners.

Bobcats fall on road against red shot Spurs, 102-78

Gregg Popovich was back from a three-game absence due to illness and feeling pretty good about the San Antonio Spurs' latest victory.

Tony Parker had 22 points and San Antonio never trailed in beating the Charlotte Bobcats 102-78 on Wednesday night, extending its winning streak to nine games.

Lenoir-Rhyne softball team chosen as SAC favorite

The Lenoir-Rhyne University softball team was voted to win its fourth consecutive South Atlantic Conference Championship after being picked to finish first in the 2013 preseason coaches poll.

L-R, which finished with a 48-13 record last season including a 14-4 mark in league play, received six out of the possible 10 first-place votes.

Walker, Kidd-Gilchrist part of NBA's Rising Stars

Two Charlotte Bobcats are heading to Houston to take part in the NBA's All-Star festivities next month.

Guard Kemba Walker and forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist were both announced as selections to the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge on Wednesday.

The game, which features first- and second-year NBA players, will be televised nationally Feb. 15 on TNT at 9 p.m.
