Eight errors costly in Tigers' playoff loss to Jets

The Fred T. Foard softball team committed eight errors on Tuesday en route to a 4-3 loss to Enka in the fourth round of the 3A playoffs in Newton.

Foard, who was the 3A state runner-up last year, finishes its season with a 23-5 overall record.

CHARLOTTE — Michael Jordan wants to "bring the buzz back" to Charlotte.

The Bobcats owner said at a press conference Tuesday evening he's changing his team's name to the Charlotte Hornets beginning in 2014-15.

CHARLOTTE — Michael Jordan's Charlotte Bobcats are having just as tough of a time winning the NBA lottery as they are winning basketball games of late.

For the second straight year the Bobcats failed to land the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft lottery despite decent odds.

Charlotte got the fourth overall pick — behind Cleveland, Orlando and Washington — in the league's lottery Tuesday night.

Macy Franklin’s header goal on a corner kick from Susan Bare helped Saint defeat Charlotte Catholic, 1-0, to advance to Saturday’s 3A state title game.

Lady Indians get a second chance at Lady Panthers

Second chances rarely come around in life, but the St. Stephens girls soccer team has just that opportunity tonight against Charlotte Catholic.

After losing 1-0 to the Lady Panthers in last year’s 3A West final, the Lady Indians (20-3-2) will try to avenge that defeat when they host Catholic tonight in Hickory at 6 p.m.

Long-time coaches Morgan, Carpenter enshrined

Two long-time area wrestling coaches were honored by the North Carolina Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame on Sunday.

Former Catawba County wrestling coaches Steve Morgan and Larry Carpenter were presented with Lifetime Service to Wrestling awards.

The Sprint Cup Series points leader added to another record to his already impressive resumé by claiming his second-straight All-Star Race trophy at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The Newton-Conover girls soccer team had its season ended by South Iredell on Saturday evening in Troutman.

The Lady Vikings (21-2) scored three goals and clamped up their defense to come away with the 3-0 shutout in the third meeting between the two schools this season.

Miracle Campbell netted two goals for South Iredell, while Katie Hinerman pocketed the other goal for the Lady Vikings.
