Josh McRoberts re-signs with the Charlotte Bobcats

The Charlotte Bobcats were busy signing players for the second-straight day on Friday.

Forward Josh McRoberts re-signed with Charlotte for a deal reportedly worth two years and $5.5 million.

McRoberts’ new contract also reportedly includes a second-year player option.

49er athletes use sports and faith as a platform

Before embarking on the first-ever season of football at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, a pair of Catawba County natives and former prep standouts gave back to those less fortunate.

Matt Johnson and Zach Bumgarner both traveled to the small town of Tecate, Mexico for a mission trip during the end of June.

Tigers attempting to replace 5 coaches in 3 sports

Center Al Jefferson signs with Charlotte Bobcats

The Charlotte Bobcats made a dip in free agency on Thursday, signing former Utah Jazz center Al Jefferson.

The deal for Jefferson is reportedly for three years and $41 million. He is the first free agent from another NBA team to sign with the Bobcats this offseason.

Hickory Post 48's playoff opener postponed yet again

July 4, 2013

Hickory Post 48’s first round Area IV playoff game against Kings Mountain Post 155 was rained out for the second-straight time on Thursday.

Post 48 (14-7, 10-6) and Post 155 (8-9, 8-7) will try to start the playoff series today at 7 p.m. at Henkel-Alley Field at the American Legion Fairgrounds.

The two teams have met in the first round of the playoffs in each of the past two seasons.

Hickory Post 48's home Area IV playoff opener with Kings Mountain Post 155 has been postponed due to field conditions.

The game will be made up on Thursday at Henkel-Alley Field at 7 p.m.

For the second-straight season, Hickory Post 48 and Kings Mountain Post 155 meet in the first round of the Area IV playoffs.

The two teams play in a rematch of last year’s best-of-five playoff series starting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Henkel-Alley Field.

Red Devils make football coaching staff changes

The Newton-Conover football program made some major changes to its coaching staff entering this fall 2013 season.

Five assistant coaches under Brint Russell in 2012 will not return to the staff.

Hickory tries to carry momentum into Area IV playoffs

Hickory starts the American Legion Area IV playoffs on Wednesday in familiar territory.

Post 48 opens play as the No. 3 seed in the West against Kings Mountain, the East’s sixth-seeded squad.

Coaches from all across Area IV gathered on Monday evening in Cherryville to discuss this year's playoffs, including seeding and rules.

Four area prep coaches step down last last week

Four area prep coaches in four different sports at two high schools stepped down late last week.

Bunker Hill athletic director Lee Miller sent out an email stating that Bears volleyball coach Julie Harris, Bears softball coach Danny Sifford and Bears cross-country/track coach John Sullivan had all resigned.
