Bobcats sign Jefferson, Zeller; Thomas is amnestied

The Charlotte Bobcats were extremely active on Wednesday, officially making three rumored roster moves official to the media and public.

Wednesday was the first day that free agents could sign with any NBA team.

Free agent Jefferson signed to deal

Former Utah center Al Jefferson was officially introduced by the Charlotte Bobcats during a press conference held on Wednesday.

Wrestling superstar and WWE Hall of Famer “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase visited L.P. Frans Stadium on Saturday at the Hickory Crawdads game against the Kannapolis Intimidators.

During his time at the game, O-N-E Sports Editor Cody Dalton spoke to DiBiase and interviewed him on a variety of topics.

Post 48 advances to round two, faces Gaston next

July 11, 2013

Hickory advanced to the second round of the Area IV playoffs on Tuesday with a 8-1 victory against Kings Mountain at Shelby High School, sweeping the series, 3-0.

Ben Watson threw a complete game on the mound for Hickory (17-7), allowing seven hits and three walks.
At the plate, Phillip Carroll went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Hickory tallies 24 runs in wins against Kings Mtn.

After nearly a week off from competition, Hickory Post 48 finally kicked off its first round playoff series with Kings Mountain on Monday.

Hickory showed little signs of rust, tallying 24 runs and 18 hits to sweep doubleheader action.

Post 48 coach Fore Rembert was concerned about the time his team had in between games.

Davis named assistant AD, steps down from coaching

The gym at St. Stephens High School will have a new floor next school year, and after Monday, a new girls basketball coach.

Todd Davis, who has coached the Lady Indians in each of the past 13 seasons, stepped down on Monday to take a new position as assistant athletic director at the school.

Davis also coached the varsity girls tennis team this past season.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner tabbed an NL All-Star

Already a two-time World Series winner, Madison Bumgarner is adding the title of All-Star to his baseball resumé.

The 23-year-old southpaw, who was born in Hickory, was selected by manager Bruce Bochy as a member of the National League All-Star team.

The selections were announced on Saturday.

Hickory's series opener is moved to Monday

Rain continues to postpone the opening round Area IV playoff series between Hickory Post 48 and Kings Mountain Post 155.

The two teams, who were scheduled to play a 3 p.m. Sunday doubleheader in Kings Mountain, will instead play on Monday in doubleheader action at 5 p.m. at Henkel-Alley Field.

Post 48's playoff game moved for fourth-straight day

Field conditions once again postponed Hickory Post 48's first round playoff series against Kings Mountain Post 155.

The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday at Henkel-Alley Field, but rains during the past couple of days dampened the field beyond safe playing condition.

St. Stephens forward Macy Franklin ready for ‘Clash’

Before she heads off to Wingate University to play, St. Stephens forward Macy Franklin has two games left in her prep soccer career.

Franklin is one of 18 players selected to play in the Seventh Annual Clash of the Carolinas.

Hickory QB Williams transfers to third county school

Matt Williams is making it three Catawba County high schools in as many years.

Williams, who played quarterback at Hickory High last season and for St. Stephens High the year prior, has transferred to Fred T. Foard High School for his senior season.

He follows current Foard coach Tom Harper from the Red Tornadoes to the Tigers.
