What’s been a difficult season for Newton-Conover on the baseball diamond so far in 2013 got just a little brighter on Monday.
The Red Devils drove in 17 runs on 13 hits en route to stunning top-seeded Bunker Hill 17-4 in the first round of the Catawba County Easter Baseball Classic.
St. Stephens baseball coach Chip Watts likened his team’s performance in this year’s Catawba County Easter Baseball Classic to being in the NCAA tournament.
“We talked about March Madness and living for the occasion,” Watts said. “Big players make big plays in big ball games.”
