BREAKING: Spartans RB Zac Pollard has torn ACL

When running back Zac Pollard went down with a knee injury during last week's 28-0 win against West Caldwell, no one knew the extent of the damage.

The Spartans found out the disappointing results on Wednesday.

Following an MRI on Tuesday, Pollard was discovered to have a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and a torn meniscus in his left knee.

Arndt football coaches retiring after 24 years together

After 24 seasons together, Ardnt Middle School football coaches Lee Drum and Scott Frank are calling it a career.

The duo is making the 2013 campaign their final on the sidelines, but both are hoping to lead the Redskins to yet another championship.

The pairing between Drum and Frank at Arndt almost never happened, though.

In fact, both men had planned to coach football in high school.

'Dads 3B Joey Gallo wins pair of awards on Tuesday

Hickory Crawads third baseman Joey Gallo closed out his first-ever minor league baseball season with a bang on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old Gallo was named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for the second time this season.

During the week, Gallo hit seven home runs in six games during the week with 11 RBIs, seven runs and three walks.

Johnson impresses in Charlotte 49ers’ first-ever win

When Matt Johnson left the prep football field at Lincolnton High School on Nov. 18, 2011, it would be nearly two years later before he would face another opponent.

He certainley didn’t show any signs of rust in UNC-Charlotte’s inaugural game at McColl-Richardson Field on Saturday.

FB Austin Johnson makes Saints’ practice squad

Former Hickory High and University of Tennessee standout Austin Johnson has signed with the New Orleans Saints.

Johnson, who was one of 17 players cut by the Saints on Saturday to reduce their roster size to the league mandated 53 players, will be a member of New Orleans’ practice squad.

He will reportedly make $6,000 a week.
