Fred T. Foard junior quarterback Matt Williams will miss the rest of the prep football season after breaking his left leg in this past Friday's game against Maiden.
Williams broke his left tibia/shin bone in two places in the contest, which the Tigers lost at home, 48-20.
With Williams being sidelined, the door is now open for someone to step in to his starting role.
The Catawba County Hornets continued their defensive dominance on the gridiron Saturday against the Upstate Vikings.
The Hornets held the Vikings to 28 yards of total offense in a 28-0 victory at Westside/Jaycee Park.
Newton-Conover High School is in search of a new athletic director.
Billy Leeson, who has been AD at the school since March 2012, is leaving to take a position at a middle school in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System.
Leeson is a former dean of students at Vance High School. He has 11 total years of experience in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System.
