Former Red Devil Lyerly is at home with Trojans

Once a Newton-Conover football player, Antonio Lyerly is making new waves this season at Bandys High School.

Lyerly is serving as a volunteer wide receivers and defensive backs coach for the Trojans this fall.

He also plans to coach the Lady Trojans junior varsity basketball team this winter.

Lyerly spent the past two years as sports coordinator at a YMCA in Charlotte.

Lenoir-Rhyne donates football jerseys to Bunker Hill

Fans of the Bunker Hill football team will notice a new, yet familiar look this upcoming season.

The Bears will sport Nike jerseys, which were previously worn by the Lenoir-Rhyne University football team.

L-R announced a new partnership this past week with Under Armour to supply the school’s athletic programs with uniforms.

Red Devils host Panthers in their second scrimmage

After a crazy schedule on Saturday, Newton-Conover’s second football scrimmage against Forestview on Tuesday went much smoother .

The Red Devils hosted the Panthers in the second of their three scrimmages this preseason at Gurley Stadium.

Newton-Conover was set to play Chesnee (S.C.) at the State Line Showdown at Boiling Springs High School near Spartanburg on Saturday.

Foard's Tom Harper returns to his coaching roots

Fred T. Foard first-year head football coach Tom Harper returned to his old stomping grounds on Tuesday for his team’s first preseason scrimmage.

The Tigers traveled to Alexander Central, where Harper coached from 2007-11. He led the Cougars to five playoff appearances in as many years during his time there.

The Cougars were 34-26 under Harper, including a 19-11 mark in league play.
