The Bunker Hill football team started practice on Thursday with two new members to its coaching staff.
Jason Phelps, who was the head coach at Fred T. Foard High School last season, joins the Bears as their defensive coordinator.
Phelps will also teach strength and conditioning at Bunker Hill High.
The Newton-Conover football team opened up its first official practice on Thursday with high hopes.

Russellâs goals for the first few days of practice are simple.
The Wayne Hicks era was officially ushered in at St. Stephens on Thursday with his first practice as head coach.
Hicks was pleased with how his team came out and performed on the practice field.
âIt was very upbeat today,â he said. âIâm very pleased with the progress and the attitudes in particular. On the field, we have a lot of work to do.â
