Post 48 picks up rain-shortened win versus Post 455

Hickory Post 48 arrived at Henkel-Alley Field on Friday expecting to play a doubleheader against Lincoln County Post 455.

What it got wasn’t anywhere close to that.

Post 48 picked up 7-6 victory against the Cardinals in a rain-shortened 4 1/2 inning game.

The second contest between the two teams was rained out.No make up date for the game was announced.

Former Hickory standout Hill chasing an NCAA title

Former Hickory High and current N.C. State track and field standout Ryan Hill will be chasing history on Saturday.

Hill will be racing in the 1,500-meter run final on Saturday in Eugene, Ore. for a chance to win his 10th All-American award and an NCAA championship.

Hill qualified for the finals by finishing fifth in the first of two semifinal heats on Thursday.

Rudisill's 5 RBIs helps Hickory end losing skid

Hickory Post 48 overcame an early deficit on the road Thursday to end a three-game losing skid with a 12-11 victory against Waynesville.

Post 48 (4-3, 3-2) trailed 4-0 early, but scored three runs in the third inning and six in the sixth inning to pull ahead and go on to win.

Aaron Rudisill led Hickory with two hits, including a home run, and dorve in five RBIs.

Foard's Shubert named Gatorade Player of the Year

Fred T. Foard pitcher Lexi Shubert added another impressive mark to her prep softball career on Thursday.

The graduated senior was named the Gatorade North Carolina Softball Player of the Year.

She is the first Catawba County softball player to win the honor.
