February 23rd
Simply dominant.
Those two words can sum up the performances of Newton-Conover wrestlers during Saturday's 2A West Regions at West Lincoln High School.
A total of 13 Catawba County wrestlers in the 3A ranks are state qualified after the completion of the West Regional match held at North Gaston High School on Saturday.
Four 3A region champions were produced, including St. Stephens' Blake Rogers (106 pounds) and Andrew Christopher (220 pounds), as well as Fred T. Foard's Mikey Vincent (120 pounds) and Ben Pitts (132 pounds).

2A girls (Sectional 4)
No. 15 Newton-Conover (15-10) at No. 2 Bandys (24-2), 7 p.m.
3A girls (Sectional 3)
No. 16 Ashbrook (17-7) at No. 1 Hickory (24-2), 6:30 p.m.
No. 9 R-S Central (16-10) at No. 8 Fred T. Foard (18-8), 6:30 p.m.
February 22nd
The Bandys girls basketball team held off two tying attempts by East Burke in Friday's CVAC girls title game, coming away with a 50-48 victory at CVCC's Tarlton Complex.
Bandys' Madi Story scored 21 points to lead all players, while Sara Goble added 12 points.
For the second-straight Friday, the Fred T. Foard basketball team got the better of Hickory.
Led by Spencer Matthews and Joe Isenhour, the Tigers (22-4) knocked off Hickory 58-46 at Craft Gymnasium to claim the Northwestern 3A/4A boys basketball tournament title.

The West Caldwell boys basketball team and East Burke girl basketball team advanced to the finals of the Catawba Valley 2A tournament with wins on Thursday at CVCC's Tarlton Complex.
The third-seeded Warriors knocked off No. 2 Newton-Conover to punch their ticket to the finals, while the second-seeded Lady Cavs defeated No. 3 South Iredell to advance to the championship game.

The Charlotte Bobcats were active during Thursday's NBA trade deadline, shipping Hakim Warrick to the Orlando Magic for forward Josh McRoberts.
McRoberts, a former Duke standout, has played in 246 career games in his six-year NBA career. He was a second round pick in the 2007 NBA draft by the Portland Trailblazers.

When it needed a boost to fuel its engine, the Bandys girls basketball tea became Madi Story powered.
Story scored 38 points, helping the Lady Trojans overcome a sluggish first half against Newton-Conover to advance to Friday's Catawba Valley 2A tournament championship game with a 75-58 win.
