PREP SOCCER: Tigers advance to 3A West final

NEWTON — The Fred T. Foard soccer team's dream season continued on Saturday.

The Northwestern 3A/4A champion Tigers (19-5-3) advanced to the 3A West finals with a 3-1 home victory against Weddington in the fourth round of the playoffs.

The Warriors, who knocked off St. Stephens to earn the right to play Foard, finish their season with a 17-8 record.

PREP FOOTBALL: Playoff brackets finalized

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has finalized its prep football playoff brackets as of about 2:30 p.m. EST, according to the NCHSAA's Rick Struck.

Below is a look at the first round playoff match ups, which take place next Friday, Nov. 15, involving area teams:

2A playoffs
No. 9 Lincolnton (7-4) at No. 8 Thomasville (5-6)

2AA playoffs

Strong second half lifts Maiden past Lincolnton

MAIDEN — Tied 7-7 at halftime, the Maiden football team kicked it into overdrive in the second half against Lincolnton.

The Blue Devils scored 35 second-half points on their way to winning 42-14 at home against the Wolves.

PREP FOOTBALL ROUND UP: Indians top Tigers

NEWTON — Kaelyn Phillips ran for a pair of touchdowns, leading St. Stephens to a 20-7 win against rival Fred T. Foard.
