NEWTON — Coming off of its first-ever conference championship, the Fred T. Foard boys soccer team continued its momentum this season with 6-2 victory against West Henderson in the first round of the 3A playoffs on Wednesday.

The Tigers (16-5-3) scored early and often in the contest.

Cougars clip Indians to win 3A West championship

HICKORY — When undefeated Carson collided with unblemished St. Stephens on the volleyball court Tuesday, you knew something had to give.

The Lady Cougars (34-0) won a battle of volleyball titans against the Lady Indians in four sets to advance to Saturday’s 3A state championship game in Raleigh.

St. Stephens finishes its volleyball season with a 27-1 overall record.

Pump, Davis earn top SD-7 2A volleyball honors

The Southern District 7 Athletic 2A announced its awards for the 2013 prep volleyball season earlier this week.

A player from Bunker Hill and a coach from Maiden were the top honorees in the conference.

Battle of unbeatens tonight between Indians, Cougars

HICKORY — With a combined 60 wins between them and no losses, a battle of unbeatens takes place tonight on the volleyball court between host St. Stephens and Carson in the 3A West finals.

The winner between the Lady Indians (27-0) and Lady Cougars (33-0) advances to Saturday’s 3A state title game at N.C. State against either Chapel Hill (22-8) or Cardinal Gibbons (26-0) in the finals.
