GHKC NOTEBOOK: Team Ned Jarrett wins Shootout

October 15, 2013

Members of Team Ned Jarrett were victorious during Tuesday's Dale Jarrett Shootout — part of the Greater Hickory Kia Classic week.

Winning team members include Ned Jarrett, Mark Talley, Bunker Hill High School golfer Jacob Lail and pro Ted Schultz.

In the nine-hole event, Lail drained a 20-foot eagle putt to give his team the winning 9-under-par score.

Hefner becomes for N-C golfer to win H.S. Classic

It's been a good year for Alex Hefner to say the least.

The Newton-Conover golfer added a title at the 10th Greater Hickory High School Classic on Monday to his already impressive amount of accolades.

Lady Bears, Red Devils both advance to SD-7 final

The Bunker Hill and Newton-Conover volleyball teams both picked up semifinal wins in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A tournament on Monday.

The two teams meet in today's final, which takes place at 5 p.m. at N-CHS.

Rebels ruin Red Devils homecoming, win 48-19

NEWTON — Down in numbers and experience, the Newton-Conover football team struggled in a 48-19 loss against West Lincoln on Friday night.

The victory by the Rebels (6-1, 2-1) was only their second-ever against a Red Devil team.

Blue Devils roll again, blow out Warriors on road

LENOIR — The Maiden football team continued its solid play so far this season with a 46-26 road victory against West Caldwell on Friday.

Maiden travels to Bandys (3-4, 1-2) next week for its next SD-7 contest and second rivalry game in three weeks.
