But he got one Saturday night after an impressive performance that included several highlight-reel dunks in the Los Angeles Clippers' 111-86 rout of the Charlotte Bobcats.

Griffin finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds before leaving the game with a little more than six minutes remaining.

"That might be a first," Griffin said of the ovation. "That was pretty cool."

Bulls top Bobcats 95-64, move to 5-1 without Rose

February 10, 2012

CHARLOTTE — Derrick Rose can afford to take a night or two off with the way the Chicago Bulls are playing — especially when the opponent is the worst team in the NBA.

Joakim Noah had 17 points and 14 rebounds, Carlos Boozer scored 16 points and the Bulls throttled the Charlotte Bobcats 95-64 Friday night despite the absence of their leading scorer and reigning league MVP.

The Bulls (23-6) won their fifth straight overall and improved to 5-1 this season without Rose, who sat out because of a lower back strain.

Barnes scored 19 of his 25 points after halftime for the Tar Heels in their 85-84 loss Wednesday night. Barnes, who sprained his left ankle against Wake Forest last week, missed all four of his shots in the first half but went 8-for-12 in the final 20 minutes.

Bears start softball season with pair of victories

February 9, 2012

The two-time defending South Atlantic League champion Lenoir-Rhyne softball team opened its season in style Wednesday, taking both games of a doubleheader against Belmont Abbey.

“We’ll take the wins,” said L-R coach Shena Hollar. “I don’t think they were pretty. We played at their pace. It was a very slow game. We like to get in, get out and get on. We didn’t do that. This is something to work on. For the opener, we’ll take two ‘W’s.’”

In game one, sophomore Haily Jarman connected on a grand slam home run to put the Lady Bears (2-0) ahead.
