Off to one its best starts in program history, the Catawba Valley Community College volleyball team is focused on one goal this season — making the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament.
Under fourth-year head coach Shannon Hudson, the Lady Bucs are 14-0 overall this season, including a 6-0 record in Region X play.
Maiden's Corbin Boyles and Fred T. Foard's Kaitlyn Rayfield took top honors at Wednesday's Catawba County Cross-Country championships at Southside Park in Newton.
The Tigers snagged both team titles at the event, claiming the boys title by 35 points from Bandys and the girls title by 29 points from Hickory.

A goal by Luke Hart with a minute to play lifted Hickory to a 2-1 victory over the rival St. Stephens on Wednesday.
It was the second-straight game that Hickory (13-1-0, 4-1-0) won by a 2-1 margin. They defeated Hibriten on Monday by the same tally.
The Red Tornadoes took a 1-0 lead behind a Carlos Sevilla goal on an Conner Hartman assist.
