Curley, Kannapolis knock off Eickhoff, Crawdads

Crawdads pitcher Jerad Eickhoff had not lost in his past 12 outings on the mound when he entered Wednesday's game against Kannapolis.

Chasing a South Atlantic League-best 12th win of the season, the right-handed pitcher allowed four runs (all earned) and seven hits in five innings against the visiting Kannapolis Intimidators, as the 'Dads went on to lose, 4-2, at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Panthers awaiting results of Otah's physical

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — General manager Marty Hurney said the Carolina Panthers are waiting for the results of a physical exam on offensive tackle Jeff Otah before making a decision on the future of the team's former first-round draft pick.

Carolina traded Otah to the New York Jets last week, but the deal was rescinded after Otah failed his physical. He reverted back to the Panthers' roster.

Penske dumps A.J. Allmendinger after drug test

A.J. Allmendinger's failed drug test has cost him his job at Penske Racing.

Team owner Roger Penske released Allmendinger on Wednesday, three weeks after he tested positive for a banned amphetamine.

Team officials said they were disappointed with the test results that left them with no choice.
