Hornets prepare to kick of 33rd season Saturday

Back for a 33rd consecutive season, the Catawba County Hornets semi-pro football team kicks off its season on Saturday.

The Hornets, who finished 8-9 overall and 6-5 in the Central Carolinas Football League in 2011, face the Winston-Salem Red Wolves at Westside/Jaycee Park at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Maiden High School Principal Dwayne Finger has announced the hiring of David Williams as the school's next baseball coach.

Williams spent last season as a head JV and an assistant coach under Caine Houser, who stepped down from his head coaching post to take the school's athletic director job last week.
