Hickory bounces Henderson County, 11-6

Hickory Post 48 bounced back from its first loss in the Area IV West Division play with an 11-6 road victory against Henderson County Post 77 on Wednesday.

Post 48 (9-2, 7-1) scored three runs in the third on a Colton Chapman homer to tie the contest after trailing 3-0. Chapman went 3-for-6 in Wednesday's game, including two singles and three RBIs.

Davidson names Fox associate head basketball coach

Growing up in North Carolina, Nick McBride is familiar with Catawba County.

The 6-4, 180-pound right-handed pitcher for the Crawdads said he feels at home playing in Hickory after growing up in nearby Lewisville.

Cherryville survives rain, Hickory to win 4-2

After an hour rain delay on Monday, Cherryville Post 100 rose as the lone undefeated team in the American Legion Area IV West Division on Monday.

Post 100 took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, handing Hickory Post 48 (8-2, 6-1) its first loss in West Division play and second overall.

Cherryville improves to 10-1, 3-0 in the West Division.

Kurt Busch keeps ride with Phoenix Racing

CHARLOTTE — Kurt Busch will return to Phoenix Racing when his one-week NASCAR suspension ends Wednesday.

Busch met Tuesday with team owner James Finch, and the duo agreed to move forward to this weekend's race at Michigan International Speedway.

Despite weather, junior golf kicks off season

Youngsters of all ages turned out at Lincoln Country Club for the first Catawba Valley Junior Golf Tour (CVJGT) event of the season Monday.

Boys and girls in five different age groups competed for bragging rights at the course despite rains looming in the area.

Suns blank Crawdads in series opener, 9-0

Behind 14 hits and nine runs, the Hagerstown Suns took the series opener against the Hickory Crawdads in Maryland on Monday, 9-0.

First baseman Justin Miller led the Suns (39-24) by going 3-for-5 from the plate, including two RBIs. Teammate and catcher Cole Leonida also had three hits and two RBIs in the contest.

Ford makes slight changes to 2013 Fusion

CHARLOTTE — Ford is making slight modifications to the 2013 Fusion it plans to use next season in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series.

Some of the updates announced Monday are designed to add additional brand identity through new grille work and hood lines.

HIckory Post 48 suffers its first loss of the season

After seven-straight wins, Post 48’s first loss was due to happen at any time.

Lincoln County drove in eight runs on 12 hits to come away with the 8-7 win against Hickory on Friday at Henkel-Alley Field at the American Legion Fairgrounds.

With the loss, Post 48 falls to 7-1 on the season.

11 runs, 16 hits doom 'Dads in loss to Drive

The Greenville Drive pounded out 11 runs on 16 hits on Friday to take the series opener against the Hickory Crawdads, picking up an 11-6 victory at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Drive (31-29) scored in all but three innings of the game, including two runs in the first and sixth.

Greenville's biggest inning came in the seventh when it plated four runs.
