Crawdads, Intimidators split Monday doubleheader

The Hickory Crawdads and Kannapolis Intimidators split a doubleheader Monday at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Crawdads (20-22) took the first game, 5-1, behind a three-run first inning and a two-run second inning.

Zach Cone led the 'Dads in the game with a double and two RBIs. Trever Adams and Luis Sardinas also drove in an RBI each.

Indians shut out Red Tornadoes to advance

The St. Stephens soccer team is one of the final four squads in the 3A soccer playoffs after shutting out conference rival Hickory at home on Saturday, 3-0.

The Lady Indians (22-1-2) made three goals in the second half, including netters by Macy Franklin, Lauren Brooks and Kalyn Meosky.

Pair of two-run homers pace Tigers in win

Falling behind in a game is something the Fred T. Foard softball team never likes to do.

The Tigers powered out a pair of two-run homers, lifting them to a 5-0 win against Erwin in the District round of the 3A softball playoffs on Friday.

Tourists take 6-2 win Friday against Crawdads

The Hickory Crawdads fell in their series opener against the Asheville Tourists, dropping a 6-2 contest.

The Tourists (24-15) were led by designated hitter Samuel Mende, who had two RBIs and a home run in the

Jose Rivera also drove in a pair of RBIs on a 2-for-4 hitting performance.

Rougned Odor and Hanser Alberto led the Crawdads (19-18) with one RBI each in the game.

Busch wins pole for NASCAR All-Star Race

CHARLOTTE — Kyle Busch has been a force on the NASCAR circuit for years, but of is 24 Sprint Cup victories, none have come at his favorite track — Charlotte Motor Speedway.

He has nine top-10 finishes in 16 starts. Victory lane, though, has proven to be elusive.

Las Vegas native Robinson takes career gamble

Growing up in Las Vegas, Hickory Crawdads third baseman Drew Robinson said he lived a normal life growing up.

Now, the 20-year-old is pursuing his dream and following in his brother's footsteps at the minor league level.

Crawdads game with Tourists postponed

Thursday's scheduled game between the Hickory Crawdads and the Asheville Tourists at Historic McCormick Field in Asheville was postponed due to inclement weather and wet grounds.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader in Asheville this Saturday, featuring two 7-inning games. Game one on Saturday will start at 5:35 p.m.

Jimmie Johnson's team wins pit crew challenge

CHARLOTTE — Jimmie Johnson's No. 48 pit crew got its revenge.

Johnson's team won the NASCAR Sprint Pit Crew Challenge on Thursday night, avenging last year's loss in the finals to Denny Hamlin's No. 11 team.

Hamlin's team was the two-time defending champions coming into the event and cruised into the finals again this year, but lost to Johnson's team by three-tenths of a second.

Saint blanks Asheville, awaits Hickory next

St. Stephens avenged a 1-1 tie earlier this season against Asheville, topping the Lady Cougars 3-0 in the third round of the playoffs in Hickory on Wednesday.

The Lady Indians victory sets up a third game with conference rival Hickory (20-4-1) on Saturday at 6 p.m. at St. Stephens High School.
