For the first time since 1998, Fred T. Foard will play for a softball state championship.
A two-run home run by Foard third baseman Ashley Oliver in the top of the sixth over right field helped the Lady Tigers (25-4) advance to next weekend's state championship series in Raleigh.
A single by Drew Robinson in the bottom of the ninth gave the Hickory Crawdads a walkoff win against the Lexington Legends on Friday before a packed house of 4,853 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.
The Legends (25-22) led 4-3 before the bottom of the seventh inning when the 'Dads struck for four runs, including a two-RBI single by Hanser Alberto.
