The Hickory Crawdads opened play at home for the 20th season in fashion on Thursday.
With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and tied 2-2 with Asheville, Crawdads left fielder Jordan Akins singled between first and second base, scoring Rougned Odor to break the tie.
For the second time in as many days, the Fred T. Foard softball earned a shutout victory against Bunker Hill at the Cherryville Easter softball tournament.
The Lady Tigers (16-2) scored two runs in the first, four runs in the third, two in the fourth and nine in the fifth to earn the impressive victory.

CHARLOTTE — For the first time this week the Detroit Pistons had some fun.
But then, most teams do these days against the NBA-worst Charlotte Bobcats.
Greg Monroe had 25 points and 11 rebounds as the Pistons salvaged a four-game road trip with a 109-85 rout of the woeful Bobcats on Thursday night.
