Indians beat N-C behind nine-run third, 11 hits

After scoring no runs on a bases loaded situation in the first inning, the St. Stephens baseball team made sure it didn’t make the same mistake twice.

Nine of the Indians’ 12 runs in their game with Newton-Conover came in the third inning.

The entire Saint line-up scored a run in that inning, which paced the team to a 12-4 non-conference win over the Red Devils in Newton on Wednesday.

PREP NOTEBOOK: Lady Tigers shut out East Burke

Fred T. Foard improved to 6-1-1 with a 5-0 non-conference soccer shutout against East Burke on Wednesday.

Ashley Jolly scored two goals for the Lady Tigers, while Angelo Lo, Carmen Winstead and Adele Jarrett each pocketed a goal each. Taylor Rios assisted on one of Foard's goals.

Hannah Skeen picked up the shut out in goal, stopping two shots on goal by the Lady Cavaliers (0-4).

The Lady Trojans played to a stalemate with the Lady Mustangs on Wednesday in a non-conference game.

Scola, Dragic lead Rockets' rout of Charlotte

HOUSTON — Luis Scola scored 23 points, Goran Dragic had 14 points and 10 assists and the Houston Rockets routed the NBA-worst Charlotte Bobcats 107-87 on Wednesday night.

Samuel Dalembert added 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Jordan Hill scored 14 and grabbed eight rebounds for the Rockets, who've won two in a row after dropping six of their previous seven games.

Derrick Brown scored 15 to lead the Bobcats, who've lost 20 of 23 road games this season.
