Newton-Conover’s chance to return to the Western Regional final — gone.
The Lady Red Devils (25-4) fell behind early to East Burke (19-9), but managed to take the game into overtime.
With the loss of senior leader Shynese Whitener to fouls, the LRDs fell behind late in the extra session and never caught up, falling 64-62 in the second round of the playoffs Wednesday.
“I’m proud of them,” N-C coach Ike Williams said of his team. “We had a great run. You have to give East Burke all the credit in the world. They came in with a good game plan, ready to play and played hard.”
Behind 31 points from CVAC player of the year Madi Story, Bandys advanced to the third round of the 2A playoffs with a 79-53 win against No. 5 Thomasville.

Guided by 16 points from Story in the first half, Bandys built an early lead, and the Trojans were ahead 40-24 at the half.
From there, the Trojans went on cruise control, scoring 39 points in the second half on their way to a victory and a third-round playoff appearance.
CHARLOTTE — Tyler Hansbrough had a season-high 22 points and nine rebounds as the Indiana Pacers continued their dominance of the Charlotte Bobcats with a 102-88 victory Wednesday night.

The Pacers led by 10 after three quarters but began to pull away in the fourth. Danny Granger had 12 points and A.J. Price, Paul George, Dahntay Jones and Darren Collison also scored in double digits.
